As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Social Justice Day, stakeholders and rights activists have called on governments across all levels in Nigeria to formulate and implement practical action plans that would promote equitable distribution of social resources for citizens.

This is just as they harped on the significance of the day especially in the growth and development of the country amid the worsening economy.

The United Nations set aside February 20 as World Day of Social Justice, to raise voices against social injustice and bring various communities across the world together to combat unemployment, social exclusion and poverty.

The UN said the day is commemorated with the belief that everyone is entitled to equal economic, political and social rights and opportunities.

This day also focuses on the plight of social injustice throughout the world while pressing for improvements and solutions to build a better and just world for all.

Speaking about the importance of the day with Crest FM’s correspondent, Olajumoke Oladejo, a Legal Practitioner, Oladepo Kazeem said social justice protects the right of the people which will give no room for segregation.

He added that a society free of social injustice will be free of chaos and disorderliness.

Speaking about the state of social justice in Nigeria, Barrister Kazeem said Nigerian leaders have refused to be socially just, while maintaining that it is part of the reasons the nation is confronting several economic and security crisis.

The theme for this year’s World Day of Social Justice is “Bridging Gaps, Building Alliances”, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and partnership to address the challenges facing the world today and the need to promote social inclusion and cohesion, while combating discrimination and inequality.
