Mixed reactions have trailed the proposed 2-day nationwide mass protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over insecurity and economic hardship faced by Nigerians.
While some Nigerians say the protest would yield positive outcomes, other have maintained they have low expectations from the proposed nationwide protest.
Recall the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) said it would hold a two-day nationwide protest over the hardship being experienced by Nigerians as well as the deteriorating security situation in the country.
NLC President, Joe Ajaero, said the protest will be held on February 27 and 28, a week after the expiration of the 14 day ultimatum it issued to the Federal Government.
As this is not the first time the NLC would call for protests and industrial actions, Nigerians have reacted differently to the latest call for nationwide protests.
Speaking with Crest FM’s correspondent, Adesola Ademurewa, A business man, Adeleke Adeyemi said the proposed protest will worsen the current situation and would not save the deteriorating economy.
Adeleke said the difficulties being experienced should instead tackled head on, calling on the government and relevant authorities to rise to the challenge.
A Public Affairs analyst, Dr Abiodun Awolaja however expressed dissatisfaction on the level of Government’s compliance with the conditions of the the Organized Labour.
Dr Awolaja, who described the present situation in the country as worrisome said if the government leaves matters unaddressed, it might become worse and else to even greater problems.
Protests had erupted in different states and cities in Nigerian, including Ibadan, Oyo State capital, with citizens calling on the government at all levels to come to their aid and alleviate their pains and sufferings.
Meanwhile, police authorities have said they would not condone any form of violence during the planned two-day demonstration declared by organised Labour in protest against the hardships and high cost of living in the country.
