A Public Affairs Analyst, Oluborode Olurotimi has maintained that the N1 million minimum wage demand of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC is unrealistic.

Olurotimi stated this while speaking on Crest FM’s Breakfast Show, Eyi-Ara.

He however said the review of the minimum wage of workers in Nigeria is unavoidable in the face of economic challenges in the country.

Olurotimi stressed that the NLC should not only raise concerns about workers’ salaries but should also champion a better economy for citizens.

Also speaking on the programme, Chairman, Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, Oyo State Chapter, Bosun Olabiyi called on the federal government to as a matter of urgency review salary increment and pay 4 months’ salary owed workers.

Reacting to the NLC’s demand of N1 million as the new minimum wage for government workers he said the demand is imperative due to the terrible economic status of the country.

Recall that NLC President, Joe Ajaero, had said the new minimum wage for workers should be N1 million, saying the demand is a reflection of galloping inflation in the country and the depreciation of the naira.
