Oyo NLC threatens strike over fuel price hike

Oyo State Labour Unions have unanimously called the state governor, Seyi Makinde to urgently attend to its demands as the fuel subsidy continues to bite harder.

The call was made at the Nigeria Labour Congress’ House, American Quarters,Gate Ibadan during a meeting which had all factions of the including Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Trade Unions Congress, TUC and the Joint Negotiation Council occurred in a hot four-hour session.

The Chairperson, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC , Comrade Kayode Martins said the unions feel the excruciating pain of Nigerians, especially the state citizens in spate of the fuel removal subsidy, couple of weeks ago.

Crest FM’s Olúfolájìmí Akinnawo reports that the NLC Chairperson, Kayode Martins noted that the entire Unions in the State have unanimously agreed to speak out to the state government led by Seyi Makinde who has refused to approve payments of its members’ fund including salary deductions, palliative for workers, continued payment of pensions, formalisation of recently promoted state workers and continued payment of retired workers’ gratuities on or before Monday 24 July to avert its unfriendly industrial disharmony despite several letters in its respect.

The state chairman ,Trade Union Council,TUC, Comrade Olatunbosun Olabiyi said the federal government has consistently failed to carry its parent body along in its policies even over its proposed disbursement of 500Billion naira in the country.

Meanwhile, Olabiyi called government at all levels to expedite action in respect to the intended palliatives towards cushioning the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
